The UK government has confirmed that all obligated producers under the UK Batteries Regulations will need to register via an approved producer compliance scheme. The timing of the approval of potential compliance schemes is still a little unclear but should be at some point during Q1 2009.
The exact role of the compliance scheme is also unclear at this early stage but ultimately a scheme takes on the legal responsibility of its members and registers their data with the appropriate environment agency.
