Due to the increasing success of sister companies Recycling in Action Ltd and Comply Direct Ltd, we are delighted to welcome on board two new members of staff to our team; Abigail Gains (right) and Samantha Stonnell (left).

Abigail has gained her experience in both sales and customer service within the waste management sector and therefore already has a keen understanding of this business sector.

Samantha has been previously been employed within various business development roles over the last 6 years which has enabled her to gain considerable experience in building and maintaining customer / supplier relationships in addition to her possessing an enviable sales track record.

Office Manager Jessica Tennant had the following to say;

“Over the past 18 months, we have witnessed a rapid development of the business and we really have gone from strength to strength. The foundation of our success has always been a very strong focus on customer service and a prolonged campaign of targeted new business generation. We are delighted to be able to confirm these two new additions to our customer support team here at Broughton Hall, and we are very excited about the value that they are able to bring to the table. Both Abigail and Samantha have proven track records in sales and customer service and have already slotted straight into our existing team. I am confident both of them will be a huge success and that we can shape a rewarding career for them both through the many years ahead.”

The winners of the 2007 BIFA Freight Services Awards were revealed at BIFA’s Annual Lunch and 19th Awards Ceremony on Thursday 17th January at the Brewery, London by special guest, broadcaster and former MP, Mr Gyles Brandreth.

The awards are widely recognised as the most prestigious within the logistics and supply chain industry as they encourage and reward high professional standards and special achievements. This year the competition comprised nine categories, and standard of the entrants was extremely high. Over 25 companies made the final shortlists.

The Uniserve Group were delighted to deservedly win the prestigious BIFA Deep Sea Award having demonstrated logistical innovation to produce efficiency and cost benefits to their customer base. Uniserve were able to lessen the amount of lorry miles through the by-passing of distribution centres and utilisation of dockside warehousing as well as enabling customers to reduce their carbon foot print and introduce other welcome environmental benefits.

Recycling in Action has been pivotal in its role within The Uniserve Group for the implementation of many recycling initiatives that have led to Uniserve picking up the award and Uniserve customers have not only benefited from the carbon emission savings but have also benefited from the additional value in that Recycling in Action has delivered through higher material prices being paid for recyclables.

The BIFA Freight Service Awards have been running for 19 years, and the ceremony has been held at the Brewery in Chiswell Street, London, since their inception in 1989. A carefully selected judging panel consisting of sponsors and independent industry specialists ultimately determines the winners.

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) represents UK companies engaged in the international movement of freight by all modes of transport.

Recycling in Action and Comply Direct are delighted to have recently partnered with the Uniserve Group of companies and welcome this additional expertise, investment and resource.

Uniserve is a global company with an annual combined turnover of some £500m, who provides an excellent strategic fit to Recycling in Action and Comply Direct given its customer base is largely made up of large blue chip UK companies such as the major retailers.

The Uniserve Group Head Office is based at the London Mega Terminal in Tilbury, Essex and this state of the art location provides an excellent platform for onward distribution outside the UK.

Being part of the Uniserve Group enables us to pay best market prices for baled recyclable materials to our suppliers by utilising Uniserve’s global freight expertise to return such materials direct for recycling in the far East, in addition to our existing outlets in the UK and Europe.

Through dealing directly with paper mills and plastic processing companies in countries such as China, we avoid any middlemen and we are able to increase logistics efficiencies that not only enable to pay a higher revenue for materials but enable us to demonstrate carbon dioxide reductions to suppliers for the movement of their waste materials. All waste material movements are accompanying by the necessary Duty of Care paperwork and full audit trail to end processor.

Through this Uniserve link we are most effective when working with large importing companies who have central Distribution Centres and who already backhaul their packaging waste from their stores to the DC. We would look to load up baled packaging waste directly in the containers arriving at DCs with imported products from the far East.

Recent coverage of the launch of Comply Direct on letsrecycle.com highlights the hassle-free and simple “no frills” approach being offered for producer compliance, which will cover WEEE and packaging. Take a look at the full news story on their website.

“A new packaging compliance service – aiming to be the “Easy Jet” of its field – has been launched by a partnership of companies in the recycling sector. The Comply Direct service is offering a “no frills” service for companies who do not wish to be part of a full compliance scheme to handle their legal packaging recycling obligations.

The new scheme, run by the Recycling in Action group of companies, initially focuses on packaging producer responsibility, but once new regulations on waste electronics come into force, plans are to expand into the waste electronics arena.

Comply Direct has said it will be targeting its service at “free riders” – packaging producers that are currently avoiding their recycling duties for whatever reason, as well as those producers registered direct with the Agency, handling their obligations outside a compliance scheme.

The scheme will also hope to attract those companies that have been members of compliance schemes in the past, and now feel sufficiently knowledgeable on the regulations to comply independently.

Spokeswoman Hannah Kendall explained: “The company offers low cost compliance, but has experts in the field. It is an online service that is easy to use and we will only be charging for services that the customer wants rather than offering an expensive scheme offering lots of services a company may not need. Its like Easy Jet, you still get from A to B, but you will not get the drinks trolley unless you want it,” she told letsrecycle.com.“
