Re-use
The first objective of the WEEE directive is to promote the re-use of electrical and electronic equipment. It is only when the EEE is not of a sufficient standard or specification for re-use, that disposal or treatment and recycling becomes the next stage.
We endeavour to ensure maximum re-use occurs wherever possible and is committed to sustainability. We want to channel as much equipment as possible into the re-use route, wherever practical.
Our collection methods and inward goods handling procedures ensure that minimum damage occurs to equipment that may be suitable for re-use in the community or via charitable organisations for export abroad.
Equipment is only selected for possible re-use if it meets the minimum requirements in terms of specification or age and only if our customer has consented to re-use.
Any IT equipment that may be suitable for re-use will have all data removed and data erasure certificates will be issued.
We are aware that electrical equipment is often re-sold via the internet or the second hand market. We ensure such practice does not occur with any equipment we handle.
Through prioritising re-use, we can reduce the costs of WEEE disposal for our customers and help them demonstrate their corporate social responsibility.
Get in touch
We are interested to hear from any voluntary groups or organisations who are championing this key philosophy of re-use. If your organisation is involved with promoting the re-use of electrical and electronic equipment at end of life, and you think we can play a role in the work you are doing, we’re keen to hear from you.
